The importance of taking a digital break: knowing when to pause so you can start afresh

At a time when digital technology plays such a central role in our daily lives, it has become almost second nature to want to stay connected all the time. Constantly posting, constantly being active, replying to messages, keeping up with the news, preparing the next article… Yet sometimes, the best thing to do is simply to stop.

It's good to switch off.

At EITT, we've decided this year to take this reality seriously. From 25 July to 22 August 2026, we've decided to schedule our articles in advance so that all team members – women and men alike – can take a breather and make the most of the summer.

Because behind every post, every piece of content and every project, there are, above all, people. Women and men who also need to take time for themselves, to spend time with their loved ones, to catch up with their families, to travel, to rest or simply to take a proper break.

Always staying active… but not at any cost

In the digital world, the feeling that you have to be constantly present can quickly become a burden. One post leads to another, one news item follows the next, and it's easy to feel that taking a break means falling behind.

However, taking a step back doesn't mean giving up.

On the contrary, switching off allows everyone to return with more energy, ideas and motivation. It allows us to take a step back, step away from the daily grind for a few moments and fully enjoy our surroundings without constantly having our eyes glued to a screen.

It's also an opportunity to remind ourselves that digital technology must remain a tool to serve our lives, and not the other way round.

A break for the whole team

This year, we wanted to ensure that everyone could really make the most of the summer break.

Articles have been prepared and scheduled in advance so that our work can continue whilst team members take some time for themselves.

This approach allows us to balance two things that can sometimes seem difficult to reconcile: keeping our website alive whilst allowing those who bring it to life to truly switch off.

And ultimately, perhaps this is also what a healthier approach to digital technology is all about: knowing when to be present, but above all knowing when to put down your phone, switch off your computer and enjoy the moment.

Disconnecting to reconnect

Disconnecting from digital devices does not necessarily mean cutting yourself off from the world entirely. It can simply mean reducing your screen time, not checking your notifications for a few hours, or treating yourself to a day without social media.

The key is to find a balance that allows everyone to protect their personal time.

We spend so much time online, keeping up to date and being bombarded with demands that it is sometimes necessary to remind ourselves of one simple thing: we also have the right not to be available all the time.

Taking time for yourself, your family, your friends or your hobbies is just as important as staying active in the digital world.

And now, it's back to work!

Whilst this break has given us a chance to rest, we sincerely hope that our followers have been able to enjoy their holidays, whether that meant travelling, spending time with loved ones, discovering new things or simply taking the time to relax.

And because we've also got a little surprise in the pipeline. This time, it won't be a new concept or a technical topic to explore, but rather a small announcement which, we hope, will delight many of you!

So we look forward to seeing you very soon to find out more.

In the meantime, the whole EITT team wishes you all a brilliant return to work or study!

Whether you're a student, a professional, a teacher, a digital enthusiast, or simply curious, we wish you every success in your projects and a brilliant start to the new term – albeit a little late.

And above all, don't forget:

Taking a break every now and then isn't a waste of time. It's also a way of looking after yourself.

So, to all those returning to their activities, studies or work: have a great start to the new term, everyone!
