When opening an email, visiting a website or clicking on an ad, a tracking pixel may be used without being noticed.
Invisible to the naked eye, this tool is widely used in digital marketing to measure the effectiveness of communication campaigns. But how does it actually work? And what information can it collect?
In this new IT Concept, the goal is to explore what a tracking pixel is.
📌 What is a tracking pixel?
A tracking pixel (or tracking pixel in English) is a tiny image, often just 1 × 1 pixel, embedded in an email or a web page.
This image is usually transparent and completely invisible to the user.
When it is loaded, it automatically sends certain information to its owner.
💡 Key point: a tracking pixel makes it possible to know whether an email has been opened or a web page has been viewed.
⚙️ How does it work?
The way it works is relatively simple:
1️⃣ An email or a web page is opened.
2️⃣ The pixel is automatically loaded from a server.
3️⃣ This server records certain information.
This information can then be used to analyze the performance of a communication campaign.
📊 What information can be collected?
Depending on the context, a tracking pixel can be used to determine:
- 📧 whether an email has been opened;
- 🕒 the date and time it was opened;
